Engine Alliance

Engine Alliance is a joint venture which was founded by General Electric and Pratt & Whitney in equal parts for the development and construction of large and powerful engines.

History

It was founded in 1996 to distribute the huge development costs for large turbofan engines, also with regard to the noise, emissions and economy new demands were placed on several shoulders. Originally a new engine for the planned versions of Boeing 747-500 and -600 should be developed as an engine did not exist with the necessary services. But Boeing put these plans shelved. At the same time, Airbus began planning for the A3XX, later the Airbus A380, and went to the Engine Alliance approach for the purpose of matching engine development. This then was the GP7200 engine.

Product

Currently, the only product is the GP7200 engine.
