Engineering technologist

As a technician, professional groups or individuals are often referred to, who are engaged in technical work areas.

The technician is in Germany and Switzerland, also a job title

  • In Germany are technicians those who passed an upgrading training as well as the state exam at a technical school to tertiary level and in the job title Certified Technician (german state certified engineer ( SCE) ) may lead.
  • In Switzerland, there is a higher vocational education at the tertiary level with thesis on the Job Title Graduate Engineers ( HF / TS).

Germany

To entitled to the protected professional designation Certified technician, a corresponding rise further training has to be undertaken at a technical school and have been passed the final, state exams. Most engineering schools are public schools, but there are also private organizations that offer this training.

In the GDR the late 80s was introduced in addition to engineering education training for technicians again. This qualifying was after the previous successful completion of a related vocational training two years and was comparable to that in the FRG.

In Switzerland, the title Certified technicians / in HF or Certified technicians / in TS is a protected occupational title. This title is only after successfully passing the Qualitfikationsverfahrens obtained as a technician TS / HF. The final qualification comprises, inter alia, the thesis ( accepted analogue of the project work of a German State technician ).

The change of TS ( technical school ) to HF ( higher vocational education ) was 2005. Dipl. engineer TS may use the title Dipl. technicians HF, the titles are therefore equivalent.

Education in Switzerland

The training includes a total number of hours of at least 3600 or 5400 learning hours (of which approximately 2000 hours), with at -job training, the occupation can be credited with 720 or 1080 hours. Requirement is usually completed apprenticeship in the chosen Technician Professional direction, but the evidence of relevant qualifications, exceptions are possible.

The courses have part- 5, 6 or 7 semesters or 4 semesters full-time.

Disciplines and specializations

Altrechtlich

In Switzerland there were before the new curriculum are many different disciplines of the technician, for example:

  • RF engineer in computer science. One of the tasks of a computer scientist HF include the systematic development of programs in several high-level languages and the design and realization of networked communication systems. The basic skills ranging from electronics to computer science, the applications are software development courses as well as in computer science centers.
  • IT Service Engineer HF: In this field of study is the system- technical side of computer science in the foreground. This means design, installation and operation of complex IT infrastructures according to recognized rules of IT service management. Organizational and business knowledge ensure the successful use of computer science means. The area of application is usually in the operation of computer science.
  • System Engineer RF: The systems engineer is an electronics expert, he is very familiar with the hardware and the software. The design and measurement of electronic circuits, the systematic development of programs are only a part of his expertise. Its field of application is mainly in the development and production.
  • RF engineer in Mechanical Engineering: Mechanical engineering technician can over the course of training on design (CAD, calculation, etc. ) or automation (robotics, programming, etc. ) specialize. A mechanical engineer HF has a key position in the design, development and construction of products, machines and equipment. He is a generalist and entrepreneurs.
  • RF engineer in electrical engineering. The electrical engineers developed HF electrical and electronic circuits (hardware) and programs (software ) for facilities and equipment for regulation and control of operations, processes and information, or for the transmission of information, and those ( communication technologies ). Depending on the application or project size, it is used for the development or support of subsystems or the whole project. Electrical engineer HF is active, for example, as an assistant engineer FH, as a group or project. In the course of studying the electrical engineer selects one of the two disciplines of energy technology and microprocessor technology.
  • Technician TS Agriculture

Also technician, but in many ways especially:

  • RF engineer nuclear power plant technology

A complete overview is published by the SBFI. The old law curricula are still recognized and the entsprenden courses continue to be offered.

Neurechtlich

With the transformation of technical schools to professional colleges for engineering, a core curriculum for the diploma. RF technicians written, controls what names and contents of the disciplines stronger.

Title

After completion of the engineering school ( private law) protected title Professional Bachelor ODEC and / or Ing EurEta can be applied for under certain conditions.

Officially, the BBT for the translation into English ' College of Professional Education and Training PET Degree in "is recommended.

Training opportunities

From professional colleges postgraduate degree courses are offered.

Technicians can " sur dossier " apply to colleges.

Technician in the Soviet Union (graduate engineer)

In the Soviet Union it was given the title Dipl. technician only after the successful completion of a brief 4-year visit, a state school ( technical ). The subtitles were very different: Hydro engineers, electrical engineers, etc. It is not an engineer ( university degree ), but a technical school.

Comparable degrees from other countries

Austria

In Austria there is no comparable degree. While there are numerous professions that are denominated in - technician, but anyone who learns a technical apprenticeship, whether in the dual path apprenticeship / vocational school, a vocational middle school (4- year) is professional in principle equivalent ( Level 4 in EQF) and the final state recognized, but all below that of a state-certified technician ( level 6 in the EQF). Developments are the masters examination, expert specialization or for all pathways - Matura provided - an engineering degree ( university or college ).

The 5-year vocational high school (usually a HTL) is in accordance with the EU directives in the post-secondary level ( for> 1 year but less than 3 years) and corresponds to the "short cylce level " ( level 5 ) of the EQF and is most likely with an English "higher national degree" ( HND) to compare. After 3 years of relevant professional practice, an HTL graduates may apply to the competent Ministry, the professional title "engineer". Furthermore, a HTL graduate can take the exam for the regulated profession of " engineering - consulting engineers " and such operate independently after 6 years of pertinent professional experience. After 15 years of work experience can apply for the Feani a HTL engineer by the name of EUR ING European Engineer. A graduate of a technical college can study any course of study without restrictions. At colleges and universities ( 5 semesters with practice) may be accepted up to 4 semesters.

The graduate HTL engineer (degree with thesis after 6 years of professional practice) ended with 2006. Sense of these financial statements was to graduate experienced engineers according to HTL, but there have been only about 1000 people chosen this path, just as there are problems with international recognition.

Other countries

Outside the German-speaking countries there are similar developments and financial statements. The common problem is lack of (direct ) comparability and hence recognition.
