English as a second or foreign language

English as a Second Language ( English as a Second Language, abbreviated ESL) is a term that is used for immigrants in English-speaking countries and the inhabitants of former colonies, where English is the official language or primary language of communication.

There are now an American podcast for learning English as a second language (English as a Second Language Podcast ). It is produced by the Center for Educational Development in Los Angeles.

Not applied the term to the learning of English in the German language area. Here we speak of English as a Foreign Language (EFL, English as a Foreign Language).
