English Montreal School Board

The English Montreal School Board ( EMSB, French Commission scolaire English - Montréal ) is a public school board in the Canadian province of Québec. She is responsible for the organization of the English school curriculum in the center and north of the administrative region of Montreal.

Organization

On 1 July 1998, the course of secular education reform in Quebec the foundation of the EMSB. With this reform, the previously separate denominational school boards were dissolved and replaced by new ones, which are defined by linguistic and geographical criteria. The EMSB took over the English-speaking parts of the Commission des écoles Catholiques de Montréal, the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, the Commission scolaire Sainte- Croix and the Commission scolaire Jérôme -Le Royer.

The EMSB operates 40 elementary schools, 17 secondary schools, eleven schools for students with learning disabilities, ten institutions for social work as well as eleven centers for vocational and adult education. Are supervised around 38,000 students. 23 school boards who are elected by the residents of assisted area, supervise the school board, with nine councilors hold executive functions.
