Enjott Schneider

Enjott or NJ Schneider ( born May 25, 1950 in Weil am Rhein, until 1998 Norbert Jürgen Schneider ) is a German composer, musicologist and university professor.

General

Enjott Schneider is a German film composer. He lives and works in Munich, where he since 1979 - held a professorship at the Academy of Music - according to studies and musicology doctorate in Freiburg. First, there was a professor of music theory, but which was later converted into the first film music professorship in Germany. Students of Enjott cutters are formed as a film composer.

Life and work

In his youth, Schneider learned many instruments, among others, violin, piano, accordion, trumpet and organ. At the age of 19 he took in Huningue (France ) to an organist. He also worked as a keyboardist in the rock band Cactus. From 1975 he worked as a church musician in Hinterzarten (Black Forest). In 1969, he began studying music theory, music education, organ and trumpet at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg im Breisgau. At the same time he studied at the University of musicology, German literature and linguistics and a doctorate in 1977 with Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht Dr. phil.

In 1988 he established the studio Augenklang, which was replaced by the Greenhouse Studio 1997. Around 1993 he taught at the Film Institute in Pune ( India) and in 1996 at the Academy of Music in Munich professor of composition for film and television.

Schneider's compositions include a wide range: works for orchestra, organ, chamber music, vocal and stage works. His numerous publications deal with music theory, music education, new music and music in audiovisual media.

Enjott Schneider serves on the board of the Society for Musical Performing and Mechanical Reproduction Rights ( GEMA), since March 2012 as chairman. On his personal website, he sums up his philosophy in one sentence "Music is art - contrasting commercialism and capitalism. " In a blog entry he says: If today, " intellectual property" is called into question, then it's not 'just' about composers or GEMA problems, but it is an indicator that we need to feudal again and fall back dictatorial mentality structures - our freedom of expression [ s] and the opinion goes in the aggressive - kapi [t ] alistischen regimentation of the people by corporations, internationalized capital and profit maximization is based. On June 25, 2013 Schneider was elected president of the German Composers' Union.
