Enn Nõu

Enn Nõu ( born October 2, 1933, Tallinn) is an Estonian writer.

Life and work

Enn Nõu was born the son of the Estonian agricultural scientist Joosep Nõu ( 1906-1999 ). In 1944 the family fled from the approaching Red Army to Sweden. From 1953 to 1961 Enn Nõu studied medicine at the University of Uppsala. He then worked as a lung doctor. From 1979 Enn Nõu was as a PhD lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Uppsala. In 1957 he married the Estonian exile writer Helga Nõu (born Raukas, * 1934).

Enn Nõu was one of the leading organizers of the exilestnischen community in Sweden. He became known as a writer. In his naturalistic and detailed prose, he also politically against the Soviet Union and the Soviet occupation of Estonia's position. Only later Enn Nõu turned to universal problems. 1999/2000 Enn Nõu was past chairman of the Estonian Association of Writers Abroad (Estonian Eesti Välismaine Kirjanike Liit ) before its dissolution.
