The Ennedi Plateau is located in the north- eastern Chad in the Borkou - Ennedi - Tibesti region and forms one of the boundaries of the Chad Basin. Its highest mountain is the Basso, 1450 meters. Limited is in the north of the depression you Mourdi, in the west of the dunes of Erg you Djourab, to the south by the highlands of Wadai and to the east from the deserts of northern Sudan.

It is the Ennedi to a 40,000 -acre sandstone complex in the middle of the Sahara, which is exposed on all sides to the erosive attack of the wind finds its way into the deep valleys of the Ennedi. Special attention was paid to this region within the geoscientific research because it is the Ennedi a solid sediments from the primeval ocean that are observable pronounced differently from the hard sedimentary rock. Karst features, such as tower structures, piers, bridges and arches, have emerged and thereby radiate a special scenic attraction.

Various petroglyphs ( rock carvings also ), ( Wadi ) were found in various Enneris. They allow conclusions on the flora and fauna in the humid age of Nigèro - Tschadien and evidence of the long history of settlement Ennedi by humans. In this age of the Holocene, the Ennedi sprang from the Goz - Kerki flows that reached the primeval lake Mega - Chad said.

The plateau has to offer a rich fauna, particularly worthy of mention here are the crocodiles in the six lakes of about 1.5 km long guelta d' Archei that have become dwarfed by the long seclusion of their population, and also threatened with extinction. The guelta d' Archei is in the 2.110 km ² game reserve Fada Archei. The last lion of the Sahara survived here until around 1940 for the last time one was spotted. Presumably ( a saber-toothed tiger) was at home back in the day and the Ennedi tiger.

The Ennedi Massif may have been the origin of the Uramazonas than 130 million years ago still part of the supercontinent Gondwana.
