Eno is the most important industrial center of the region. Especially the wood processing industry plays a major role: the largest employer in the community is the group Stora Enso with a pulp mill and a sawmill. Traditionally, the Pielisjoki river has the residents of Eno offered by rafting and fishing employment.

The word eno means in today's Finnish " maternal uncle ". However, the name of the village derives from an older homonymous word meaning " power " or " big river " and refers to the Pielisjoki.

Eno is the birthplace of Finnish biathlete Mari Laukkanen.
