Enric Gensana

Enric Gensana Merola ( born June 3, 1936 in Lleida, † 28 September 2005) was a Spanish football player of the FC Barcelona.

Career

He made his first professional game on April 3, 1955 UE Lleida in the Segunda División at 1:4 against España Industrial. In 1956 he moved to FC Barcelona, and was there in the early 1960s one of the best defenders in Europe. With Barcelona under the coaches Doménec Balmanya, Helenio Herrera and Gonzalvo III was header and the ball strong, technically savvy Libero twice champion, three times Cup winners and twice won the Fairs Cup. In 1961, he failed in his club in the final of the European Champion Clubs' Cup at Benfica.

From 1956 to 1963 he played 131 league games for Barcelona, scoring 13 goals.

For the national team of Spain he ran 10 times. On 16 May 1957 he played his first international match against Scotland in a 4-1. Because of a meniscus injury that he had suffered years earlier, Gensana had to end with almost 30 years of his career in 1966.
