Enrico Butti

Enrico Butti ( born April 3, 1847 in Viggiù; † January 31, 1932 ) was an Italian sculptor and painter.

Life

Butti was born on April 3, 1847, the son of Mr and Mrs Bernardo and Anna Giudici. He moved in 1861 to Milan, there to visit the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, where he took courses at Pietro Magni. During the years of Scapigliatura he presented in 1872 at the Mostra Nazionale one of his first works from, the marble figure of Raffaello Sanzio. Next he exhibited in 1874 at the Palazzo Brera ( Brera Palace ) in Milan's Brera district, the figure of Eleonora d' Este, which today is located in Saint Petersburg. Other works were Caino, Le smorfie, Stizze, San Gerolamo (1875 ), Il mio garzone and Santa Rosa da Lima ( 1876), which is in Milan's Cathedral today. The figure of L' angelo dell'evocazione created for the tomb of Cavi - Bussi at the Milan cemetery, further he created the monument for Alberto da Giussano in Legnano, the figure of the general Giuseppe Sirtori, located in the public gardens in Milan, and the figure La morente (1891 ) for a tomb.

The sculpture Il minatore (English: The mountain man) was first issued in 1888 in Brera and was initially controversial because of their socially critical undertone, but already at the Paris World Exhibition of 1889, she was awarded a " Grand Prix" and was also awarded several times later. It created multiple copies of this figure in bronze casting, including one for the tomb of Düsseldorf industrialist family of Gahlen at the Düsseldorf North Cemetery.

From 1893 to 1913 Butti was a lecturer for sculpture at the Accademia Belle Arti di Brera, the. In 1913, he created the character of Giuseppe Verdi, located in the Piazza Michelangelo Buonarroti in Milan. From 1928 Butti devoted himself to painting. He died on 31 January 1932 in his villa in Viggiù whose park now houses the Museum Butti.
