The nuclear power plant Enrico Fermi (English Enrico Fermi Nuclear Generating Station ) is a nuclear power plant with a breeder reactor and a boiling water reactor. The nuclear power plant is located in Frenchtown Charter Township, Michigan, and is named after nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi.

Enrico Fermi 1

Block 1 was a prototype of a 65 megawatt breeder reactor. It was built from August 1, 1956. On August 5, 1966, he was put in service. On October 5, 1966, came to a meltdown in some parts of the reactor core. This accident was caused due to a fragment that came in the cooling circuit. Two of the 105 fuel assemblies melted it. The reactor was shut down on 29 November 1972.

Enrico Fermi 2

Block 2 is a boiling water reactor from General Electric. Construction began on 26 September 1972. September 21, 1986, the reactor went on line.

Enrico Fermi 3

Detroit Edison has recently shown interest to build another reactor at the site Enrico Fermi. For some time licenses are organized for the construction of additional block at the nuclear power plant Enrico Fermi. This process can take up to five years. The reactor should go between 2015 and 2020 to the network and cost about three billion U.S. dollars.
