Enrico Mainardi

Enrico Mainardi ( born May 19, 1897 in Milan, † April 10, 1976 in Munich ) was an Italian cellist, composer and conductor.

Life

As early as 1910, at the age of thirteen, began his career as a cello virtuoso in many European concert halls.

Enrico Mainardi worked as a teacher at the Academy of Music in Berlin, at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the summer courses in Salzburg and Lucerne and had some cellists became famous as a student, including Siegfried Palm, Miklós Perényi, Michael Steinkühler, Heidi Litschauer and Joan Dickson.

With Edwin Fischer ( piano) and George Kulenkampff (violin), later Wolfgang Schneiderhan (violin), Mainardi formed a famous trio. He also appeared together with the pianist Sebastian Peschko. In addition, in 1967 he founded a trio with pianist Guido Agosti and the flutist Severino Gazzeloni.

Enrico Mainardi years was romantically involved with actress Marianne Hold. His wife Ada Colleoni Mainardi had an affair with Arturo Toscanini.

As a composer, he created orchestral works, five concertos for cello and orchestra and chamber music. The estate of Enrico Mainardis is held by the German composer archive at the European Centre for the Arts Hellerau.
