Enrique Guaita Lucas Gonzales (also Enrico Guaita; born July 15, 1910 in Lucas González, Argentina, † May 18, 1959 ) was an Argentine- Italian football player.

Enrique Guaita was a famous representative of the Oriundi, a generation of players with Italian ancestors who grew up in South America and later returned to the home of their parents and there also played for the national team.

He played as a right winger, was a gifted dribbler and had a strong shot. With the Italian national team, he was in 1934 Football World Cup.

Guaita died in 1959, at the age of only 48 years in Argentina.

Career

In the club

Enrique Guaita began his career in 1927 in Argentina for Estudiantes de La Plata. In 1933 he moved to AS Roma in Italy, where he was a regular force for two seasons. In the 1934/35 season he scored 29 goals in 29 games and became the top scorer in Serie A. These results yield is still absolute Serie A record for the championship with 16 teams. In total, he scored in 61 league inserts 43 times. From this time his nickname Il Corsaro Nero comes ( The Black Corsair ), as the Roma was still played in black jerseys.

In the summer of 1935, however Guiatas career in Italy ended abruptly when he to escape military conscription and a possible combat mission in the Italian- Ethiopian war, again went back to his home country. From 1936 to 1937 he was at Racing Club Avellaneda under contract, 1938-1939 played Enrique Guaita again at Estudiantes de La Plata.

In the National Team

Guaita was one of twelve players who played in her career for both the Argentine and the Italian national team. For Argentina, he completed four international matches and scored one goal here. For the Squadra Azzurra he was ten times on the pitch and scored five goals.

With the Football World Cup 1934, which was held in Italy, Guaita was in the squad of Italy, completed four of five games and scored in the semifinal against Austria the winning goal to make it 1-0. He brought Vittorio Pozzo's Azzurri to the final against Czechoslovakia, which they won 2-1 after extra time.

Even when winning the European Cup of the national 1933-1935 he was in Italy one of the party.
