However, he was not the starting eleven over long distances, as it often was used only as a replacement for the Argentine Miguel Marín and therefore rarely was used. Meza later moved to the UANL Tigres, where he trailed off his active career in 1980.

Coach

Enrique Meza coached various Mexican club teams as well as the national team. With four league titles and three international title wins, he is one of the most successful coaches of Mexico.

As Meza gave his coach debut at Cruz Azul on January 9, 1983, he replaced as a former assistant coach of all the insurmountable for him during his active playing career ex- goalkeeper Miguel Marín, who had been locked due to assault against a referee for one year. Under his reign, but the team fell short of expectations, so that Meza was soon placed in the junior section of the club.

1992 Meza was again engaged as head coach at Cruz Azul. This time he was more successful, reaching with the team even the finals in 1994, but these were lost to Necaxa. After a stopover at Monarcas Morelia he came early in the season 1996/97 for the Toros Neza, which he had practiced an attractive attacking football that made the Toros with 70 goals scored for most accurate team. As a result of their offensive qualities the Toros reached the semifinals of the Apertura 1996 and the final of the Clausura 1997.

For next season 1997/98 Meza moved to Deportivo Toluca, whose team he led three times in the next three years to the championship.

End of the season 1999/ 00 he ended his involvement in Toluca to coach the national team. His international debut against Ecuador (2-0) on 20 September 2000 was followed by victories against Bolivia ( 1-0) and Trinidad ( 7-0 ). But from then on it went downhill. In the following 16 games in which he oversaw "el tri", there were only two victories ( 4-0 against Jamaica and 1-0 against Poland ), but eleven defeats. After an unsuccessful start to the final group of the CONCACAF qualifying round of the 2002 World Cup with just one win, one draw and three defeats, Meza was immediately after the defeat in Honduras (1:3 ) was replaced by Javier Aguirre, the national team in the last five games led to four wins and a draw, so the Mexicans still qualified for the World Cup.

After his lack of success in national Meza was active as a club coach again, but had neither Atlas nor at Cruz Azul Toluca or the desired success.

His commitment in the CF Pachuca at the beginning of the 2006/07 season began the second great epoch of his career: Meza led the team right off the bat on winning the Copa Sudamericana 2006 ( the first success of a Mexican club team under the jurisdiction of the CONMEBOL! ) And the semi-finals to the Mexican Championship, where his new team lost just against his former club Toluca. In the Clausura 2007 he led Pachuca for the second title win in the CONCACAF Champions ' Cup and fifth championship. 2008, the title in the Champions ' Cup could be defended. In the Clausura 2009 Pachuca could reach under his direction once the finals in the local championship, but lost to the Pumas.

In June 2009, Meza finished his commitment to Pachuca to - for a new total already the fourth time (!) - The coach of his " heart association" Cruz Azul to take over.
