Ensonido

Ensonido is a method that makes any multi-channel audio ( surround sound ) via conventional stereo headphones audible. Developed Ensonido at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits in Erlangen.

Technology

The six-channel soundtrack is mixed down by the software in a two-channel stereo downmix, the acoustic space and contains the header information. Depending on the distance of the virtual speakers each track is made with a time delay audible over stereo headphones. This is then perceived as surround sound. Optional Ensonido support a head-tracking mode: Using a headset with a head tracker so can the position of the sound sources according to the head movements of the listener to be adjusted.
