Enspel

Enspel is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Westerburg.

Geographical location

Enspel located 10 km north-west of Westerburg, on a hill on the western slopes of Stöffel, a basalt mountain. The situation is characterized by the nearby basalt fractures, in which around since the 1900's the breakdown of the basalt is operated. History

1261 was the first documentary mention as Enspels Encenmulen. Originally the county Diez owned it fell in 1386 by inheritance to the House of Nassau - Dillenburg. After the founding of the Confederation of the Rhine 1806 Enspel was the newly established Duchy of Nassau slammed. After the German War of 1866 the place with Nassau came to Prussia.
