Ensuès-la-Redonne

Ensuès la Redonne is a municipality with 5254 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Ensuès la Redonne is located a few kilometers west of Marseilles between the Mediterranean Sea and the Etang de Berre. The community has a small harbor and is a destination for many tourists. The landscape of the area is covered with heather and pine trees and opened up a number of walks.

The village lies in the Massif de l' Estaque on the edge of a slight hill, which rises to the north of the sea. East of the old town and along the road that connects the town center Ensuès with the small port of La Redonne, more settlements were established in the past few years of strong population growth.

History

The community was only created in 1933 by splitting off from the neighboring village of Le Rove today. Together with this community and formerly also to Le Rove counting municipality Gignac -la Nerthe formed Ensuès until the end of the 18th century a parish.

As tombs and amphorae found during excavations confirm the settlement history of the site dates back to prehistoric times.

Demographics

The number of inhabitants in Ensuès la Redonne increased since the 1960s disproportionately. Starting from a level of about 1,000 residents in 1962, the population increased fivefold due to a huge influx to the last survey in 2006, almost. The birth rate was always positive in this period, but could not significantly contribute to the growth compared with the migration.
