Enteral administration

The term enterally ( gr έντερον enteron " gut ", " guts " ) is called in medicine the supply or loss of drugs or food, of electrolytes or trace elements through the intestines. Enteral access paths are thus the mouth (oral ) and the rectum (actually rectum, rectal therefore access routes ). Enteral nutrition can mean using a nasogastric tube, gastrostomy tube or PEJ also diet.

The enteral administration of drugs is in principle parenteral administration, thus bypassing the gastrointestinal tract, compared to (about as intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous or inhaled dose).
