Enterprise (computer)

The Enterprise was a Zilog Z80 based home computer first appeared in 1985. Two variants were produced: the Enterprise 64 with 64 Kbytes of RAM and the Enterprise 128 with 128 Kbytes. In the unit there were two coprocessors for the sound (audio chip Dave ) and the graphics (video chip Nick ). Both chips were named after their designers Nick Toop and Dave Woodfield.

The computer had a Z80 CPU with 4 MHz, 64 Kbytes or 128 Kbytes of RAM and 48K of ROM in which the EXOS operating system and the BASIC programming language were housed. In the ROM a word processing program was also installed. The housing of the computer was unique in its own way, as this included both the keyboard with programmable function keys as well as a small joystick.

In Germany the computer under the name Mephisto PHC 64 of the company Hegener & Glaser was sold from 1985, which had previously been successfully sold electronic chess computer in the German market. The device was sold in May 1985 at a price of DM 1,198.00 (incl. VAT).

In Hungary, the company Videoton had from the year 1984, a license and created a customized on national circumstances version of the device, which was produced in 1988 under the name TV computer for about three years. The series consisted of two basic models and a revised version, but was overall just as in the 5-digit number range.
