Entertainment Software Rating Board

The Entertainment Software Rating Board, ESRB short, is a subordination of the Entertainment Software Association. It was founded in 1994 and rated computer games according to their suitability for children and adolescents in the U.S. and Canada, similar to the USK in Germany, but with the difference that this is a pure self-regulation means the computer game industry with all rights reserved. The evaluation of a game is on a voluntary basis the publisher, but are evaluated on retailers' pressure and the console manufacturers almost all games.

Age restrictions

  • EC ( = early Childhood; suitable from 3 years )
  • E ( = Everyone, from 6 years of age )
  • E10 ( Everyone 10 and older =; 10 years of age )
  • T (= teenager, aged 13 years of age )
  • M ( = Mature, from 17 years of age )
  • AO ( Adults Only =; over 18 years of age )
  • RP ( Rating Pending =; means that no age recommendation was adopted )
