Entre-deux-Monts

Entre -deux- Monts is a municipality in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Entre -deux- Monts is located at 806 m above sea level. M., about twelve kilometers south-southeast of the city Champagnole (air line). The village street lines extending in the Jura, in an open basin of Quenot, between the forest heights Rachet in the north and Bois de Combe Noire in the south.

The area of ​​5.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is characterized by terrain ridges and longitudinal troughs, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the region. The central part of the area occupied by the approximately one kilometer- wide longitudinal trough of Quenot, which provides for drainage west to Lemme.

The longitudinal recess of the Entre- deux -Monts is flanked to the north by the mountain range of the Rachet ( 895 m above sea level. M. ) and the Col du gypsum. In the south is dominated by the steep slope of the Bois de la Combe Noire, whose top is crowned by a rock band. At this altitude is 940 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Entre -deux- Monts are Chaux -des- Crotenay in the north, Les Planches -en- Montagne in the east, Fort-du- Plasne in the south and La Chaux -du- Dombief in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Entre -deux- Monts in the early 13th century under the name Sous- Malruche; The current name appears for the first time in 1295. In Morillon was since the 15th century an important bridge crossing over the Lemme at the end of the 18th century duty was collected. Together with the Franche -Comté reached Entre -deux- Monts with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 158 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Entre -deux- Monts is one of the smallest towns in the Jura. Economy and infrastructure

Entre -deux- Monts was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N5, which runs from Champagnole after Morez. Further road links exist with Planches -en- Montagne and Chaux -des- Crotenay.
