Entropy of vaporization

The vaporization describes the change of entropy of a liquid at the transition into the gas phase.

Pictet- Trouton rule

The Standardverdampfungsentropie liquids follows the Pictet- Trouton's rule ( by Raoul Pictet and Frederick Thomas Trouton ). Accordingly, the value of the Standardverdampfungsentropie near ≈ 88-90 JK -1 mol-1 for many non-polar liquids. The reason here is the comparatively large increase in the " disorder" in the transition from liquid to gas. Strong deviations are usually justified with anomalously strong interconnected molecules, so liquid water is stabilized by hydrogen bonds and more structured (higher short-range order ), which has a high Standardverdampfungsentropie result.
