Envoi

As Envoi (Fr. " (waste ) program" ), in German also " conduct" or " broadcast" is the short -circuit and dedication verse of a medieval Provençal or Old French song, first as part of the songs of the troubadours and Trouvères, in the French poetry of the late Middle ages as part of the Chant royal and again flourishing ballad in which this verse is taken from the chant royal.

The Envoi usually contains primarily an apostrophe to the person to whom is dedicated the song, and explanatory or commentary remarks as a moral proposition. The recipient of the ballad is usually called Prince. This is the elected chairman of Puy, a semi-religious, semi- literary culture society of the Middle Ages, often sealing were holding competitions for the coronation of a prince. The Old and Middle French word puy derives from the late Latin podium.

The well-known ballad La Ballade des Dames du temps jadis the French poet François Villon ends with the following Envoi.

The author appeals to the Prince in the first place of the verse, and he expresses a commentary, remark in which the Prince is asked ironically, to not worry about where the sung in the first three stanzas Dames du temps jadis have remained.
