Enyu Valchev

Enju Waltschew Dimov ( Bulgarian Еню Вълчев Димов; born January 4, 1936 in Polski Gradez, Oblast Stara Zagora, † February 15, 2014 ) was a Bulgarian wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1964 in Tokyo in free style at lightweight.

Career

Enju Waltschew Dimov, who started only under the name Waltschew usually began as a teenager at the club Minor Dimitrovgrad with the rings. He developed into an outstanding freestyle wrestler, who joined the Bulgarian CSKA Sofia and Levski top clubs, Spartak Sofia soon. On the international stage Ringer he first appeared at the World Championships in 1959 in Tehran, where he was vice-champion in the lightweight straight away. He won it five fights and was subject only to the Soviet wrestler Vladimir Sinyavsky.

1960 Waltschew won at the Olympic Games in Rome in lightweight bronze medal. He won amongst other things against the West German champion Horst Bergmann from Lichtenfels to points and was again defeated only against Wladimir Sinyavsky.

In 1960, he raced in a country fighting against the Federal Republic of Germany at lightweight against Klaus rust from Witten and defeated this on points. Also, 1963 and 1964, he played international matches against the Federal Republic of Germany and won it again against Horst Bermann and against Klaus rust.

At the World Cup 1961 in Yokohama Waltschew could not attend because Bulgaria sent no team. In 1962, he was, however, at the World Championships in Toledo / USA back again and was charged with five wins and a draw against Robert Dschaganadse from the USSR for the first time world champion. In 1963, he could not repeat that success. He won only two fights, wrestled a draw against the Iranians Abdollah Movahed, succumbed to Soviet wrestler Sarbeg Beriaschwili and landed on the 6th Place.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1964 Waltschew could successfully take revenge against Sarbeg Beriaschwili, struggled against Abdullah Movahed again draw and won his other fights and was so before Klaus rust from the FRG Olympic champion.

In the years 1965, 1966 and 1967 Enju Waltschew was not quite as successful as in the years up to 1964. He was defeated at the world championships in those years twice against the outstanding Abdollah Movahed, reaching 1965 4th Place, 1966 the 6th Place and in 1967 3rd place. He finished 3rd also at the European Championships 1967 in Istanbul, where only a surprising defeat against Sweden in January Karlsson prevented him from winning the title.

Very successful Waltschew was back in 1968. Initially he was in Skopje European champion at lightweight and then he won at the Olympic Games in Mexico City the silver medal. He won it, inter alia, Klaus against rust, Wayne Wells from the United States and January Karlsson and defeated again against Abdullah Movahed.

The year 1969 was for Waltschew similar to the 1968. He was at home in Sofia European champion and finished at the Edmonton World Championships 2nd place behind Abdullah Movahed.

After this championship Enju Waltschew Dimow resigned as an active wrestler. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was taken in September 2005 in the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame. He died in February 2014 from the effects of a severe stroke.
