The Divertikelschnecke ( Eobania vermiculata ), also called noodle snail, is a land snail from the family of helicid ( Helicidae ); this family belongs to the order of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ).

Features

The case measures in adult animals 14-22 x 22-30 mm. It is flachkonisch with a spherical habit. It has 5 to 6 turns slightly curved, which increase uniformly up to the last deal. The suture between the whorls is relatively shallow. The mouth is lowered in relation to the winding axis of the first whorls sharply. The surface is pitted, among which are weak growth lines to see the form with fine vertical stripes a fine mesh pattern. Otherwise, the case is smooth but matte. The body of the animal is colored light gray to light brown; Sensor body and top are often a little darker.

Occurrence, lifestyle and dissemination

The species occurs at field margins, hedgerows, gardens and vineyards also near the coast in dry locations. It is distributed from eastern Spain on the Mediterranean Sea area to the Crimea peninsula. In France, it penetrates until in the upper Rhone valley. In the east, the northernmost occurrence is located in Hungary. Otherwise, the species has since been deported to southern England and Australia. According to the temperature distribution in the distribution area, the animals hold either hibernate or a summer rest.

Reproduction

In northern Greece, copulation takes place after the first autumn rains. About 20 days later, the egg-laying takes place every individual stores about 70 eggs. A little later the young hatch. Sexual maturity is reached at about 2 years. They can be up to about 5 years old.
