Eötvös number
The Eötvös number ( Eo ) is a dimensionless parameter in the field of fluid mechanics. It is named in honor of the Hungarian mathematician and geophysicist Loránd Eötvös ( 1848-1919 ). Together with the Morton number can be explained by the Eötvös number the form of a fluid particle ( bubble, water drops, etc.) characterize. The Eötvös number can be interpreted as the ratio between buoyancy force and the influence of surface tension.
- : Density difference of the two phases, (kg/m3)
- : Acceleration due to gravity (m/s2)
- : Characteristic length (m)
- : Surface tension ( N / m)
The Eötvös number is closely related to the Bond number and describes a special case.
