Épernay

Epernay [ ˌ e.pɛʀnɛ ] is a city in the Champagne region in France, the capital of the arrondissement of Epernay in the west of the department of Marne. It is divided into cantons Epernay Epernay -1 and -2 and has a population ( as of January 1, 2011 ) of 23 888 inhabitants, about 34,000 in the agglomeration.

Description

Epernay is located in a wine region and is one of the main centers of production of champagne. Worth seeing are the driven into the limestone tunnels that serve the great trading houses of Champagne as a wine cellar. Alone the famous house Moët & Chandon has about 110 km of tunnels.

The city is associated with the Regional Natural Park of the Montagne de Reims, the access location.
