Geography

Epfendorf situated in the Upper Neckar valley between Oberndorf am Neckar and Rottweil.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by the city of Oberndorf, in the east on the town Rosenfeld in Zollernalbkreis, to the south Dietingen and Villingen village and to the west by Boesingen.

Structure

The municipality comprises the main town Epfendorf and the three districts Harthausen, Talhausen and Trichtingen.

History

The exact age of Epfendorf is not known, the place was but 994 first mentioned. Archaeological finds point to a Roman settlement, a Roman road led to the Roman settlement in Waldmössingen. On January 1, 1974, the community was incorporated into Harthausen Epfendorf. The incorporation of Trichtingen took place on 1 January 1975.

Religions

The Protestant church Trichtingen ( which also includes the main town Epfendorf counts ) belongs to the church district of Sulz am Neckar of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg.

Policy

The municipality belongs to the administrative community Agreed with the city of Oberndorf am Neckar.

Culture and sights

Epfendorf is located on the Neckar Valley Cycle, which takes in many sights.

Structures

Not far from the part of town Harthausen is located in the forest Lichtenegg castle. However, it is privately owned and not open to visitors. In Epfendorf is also the rest of the castle Schenkenberg from the 14th century and the Anna Chapel, which was inaugurated in 1657.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Epfendorf is located on the main road and 14 at the Gäubahn (Stuttgart - Singen), but is currently no active rail breakpoint more. The Epfendorf station continues to serve, however, as an operating station, where among other things the ICE from Stuttgart to Zurich cross. In addition to the Epfendorf station also there is a train station in eingemeindeten Talhausen.

Education

The community has two primary schools and a secondary school with Werkrealschule. All secondary schools are available in the nearby towns of Oberndorf and Rottweil.
