Ephemeral plant

Ephemeral ( from Ancient Greek ἐφήμερος Ephemeros, just one day permanently, ephemeral ', of which German ephemeral, " fleeting, impermanent " ) are short-lived annuals plants that form within a very short growing season flowers and fruit to stall it. They often occur only in years with above average rainfall.

They include, for example therophytes and some mosses.

In line with this are as Ephemeroide Frühlingsgeophyten that are characterized by a short growing season as well as ephemeral, but perennial species with underground storage organs are. They behave ecologically similar and have almost the same pace of development.

Must be distinguished from Ephemerophyten, plants from foreign Flore rich who run wild for a short time, but in the long run not procreate and therefore not to neophytes.
