Ephraim of Bonn

Efraim ( Ephraim ) ben Jacob ben Kalonymos from Bonn, also Efrayim Ben- Yaaqov (* 1132 or 1133, † 1200 or 1221 ) was a rabbi, historian, Talmudist and liturgical poet.

Life

He was the son of Jacob Jews in Bonn, grandson of Kalonymos and brother of Kalonymos ben Jacob and Hillel ben Jacob.

Ephraim was a student of Rabbi Ephraim ben Isaac. He wrote, inter alia, about the persecution of Jews in Germany, England and France during the Second Crusade ( 1147 ), reported on the massacre of Jews of Blois ( 1171 ), York ( 1189-1190 ) and London ( 1190 ).

He was the successor of Rabbi Joel ben Isaac ha -Levi in Bonn, but also taught in Mainz and Speyer.
