Ephrath

In the Hebrew Bible Ephrathah is first mentioned in Genesis 35.16-20 LUT as the place where Rachel gave birth to her son Benjamin and died. Even the Book of Joshua mentions the place that was in the division of the cities of Canaan among the tribes of the tribe of Judah. The name is housed in an old tradition with the city of Bethlehem in conjunction. However, historians believe that the ancient settlement lay to the south of the famous Bethlehem today.

In the book of Micah Ephrathah is in a well known prophecy known as the birthplace of the future Messiah (Mi 5.1 LUT):

The New Testament applies this prophecy to Jesus of Nazareth, who is to be born in Bethlehem.

Several localities have been named after Ephrath, such as in the United States. But an Israeli settlement in the West Bank near Bethlehem Its official name Ephrathah, but is usually referred to as Efrat. In addition, Ephrathah is also a personal name.
