Epidermoid cyst

Epidermoid cysts are among the monodermalen tumors ( teratomas ) and occur at different points of the human body.

Skin

Localized benign cysts in the dermis, composed of epidermal cells, but does not comprise the skin appendages. These cysts produced by the cell proliferation of epidermal cells in the skin surrounding. Histologically, they consist of a thin Plattenepithelschicht with horny lamellae, which may be partly exfoliated. When skin lesions smaller parts of the epidermis can be shifted in the depth of the wound. The transplanted Epidermisteile grow inside the wound and form horn masses, which then lead to the creation of an epidermoid cyst.

The epidermoid cysts are often found on the face, neck and trunk.

Wherein clinical symptoms have the therapy, where possible, in a surgical removal of cyst. However, it is not always certain that the cyst can be radically removed, so that it often comes to recur.

Brain

Lobulated, irregular, cauliflower-like mass with liquorähnlicher ( liquid) density, which has no contrast enhancement. In magnetic resonance imaging to distinguish them is mainly the fact that it is not fully signalsupprimiert in the flair sequence, ie there is a hyperintensity compared to CSF. In 10-25 % of cases calcifications are present. Most frequently epidermoid cysts found in the cerebellopontine angle ( 75%) and in the fourth ventricle of the brain (20 %). They arise from individual inclusions to the skin surface of the skin during the neural tube.

Testicle

Performs as a benign tumor abgekapselter from epidermal cells.
