The mountain willow herb (Epilobium montanum ) belongs to the family of the evening primrose family ( Onagraceae ).

Description of the plant

The Mountain Willow herb is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height usually about 40 cm. The plant is little overall hairy. The lance-shaped and sharply toothed leaves are sessile and 4 to 10 cm long and 2-3 cm wide.

It has radiating, pale - pink colored flowers which have a diameter of 10 mm and a long corolla tube. The scar is clearly vierspaltig. The flowering season is from June to September.

Ecology

The flowers are homo game, upright " Small funnel flowers " with 4 - lobed stigma. Most self-pollination takes place; the flower-visiting by flies and butterflies is only sparse. The flowering season is from June to September.

The mother plant dies in the fall, the winter is done by underground renewal shoots, called Sobolonen. It is a peculiar seasonal dimorphism before that is that there is next to fall or Frühjahrskeimern resulting also from Sobolonen plants.

Occurrence

This species is quite common along forest edges, clearings and in bushes, even in the inner cities. It prefers nutrient-rich soils.

Their range extends from Europe to East Asia.
