Epistle side

As epistle is referred to in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite of the Roman Catholic Church the right side of the high altar. Also is called colloquially the right ( at geosteten Churches southern ) side of a church as the Epistle.

The priest or - levitated high offices - the subdeacon sings or reads in the Holy Mass on this side of the altar, the epistle. The gospel, however, proclaims the priest on the other, the Gospel side. Therefore, the acolyte carries the book panel after the presentation of the Epistle to the Gospel side.

On the epistle side of the altar made ​​in the extraordinary form of the following rites and prayers:

  • Introit
  • Oratio
  • Epistle
  • Preparation of the chalice with wine and water
  • Hand washing ( sink )
  • Purification
  • Postcommunio (closing prayer)
