Épouville

Épouville is a commune with 2829 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Maritime in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the Local Government Association Communauté d' agglomà havraise

Geography

Épouville is located 2 kilometers north-east of Monti Villiers and 15 kilometers northeast of Le Havre. The river Lézarde flows through the community. The hamlet of La Payennière belongs to the municipality.

History

In the old quarry of brick were found traces of habitation from the Mousterian and the Neolithic period.

Épouville was described in a Latin document of 1068 by William the Conqueror as Espovilla, Epouvilla or Esposvilla.

Sister City

Épouville maintains since 1986 a close partnership with the German town of Dinklage in Lower Saxony.

Attractions

  • The Romanesque church of Saint -Denis was built in the 11th century. The bell tower dates from the 12th century, the choir from the 13th century.
  • In La Payennière is a moth.

Economy and infrastructure

The main economic activities are agriculture and cattle of Épouvillais.

The secondary school Collège Georges Brassens was named after the cabaret singer Georges Brassens ( 1921-1981 ).
