Eppu Normaali
Eppu Normaali is a Finnish rock band from Ylöjärvi whose texts are written in their native language.
The band's name comes from the movie Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks. The brain, which has stolen the laboratory assistant is labeled with the name Abby Normal and actually a warning that the brain is abnormal. Abnormal translated into Finnish means epänormaali.
While the band has sold over 1.5 million albums in Finland, enjoys legendary status, and all albums have at least one gold record, but usually get platinum or multi - platinum awards, she is hardly known outside the Finnish -speaking world.
Band History
Eppu Normaali was founded in 1976 by brothers Martti and Mikko Syrjä, her cousin Aku Syrjä, Juha and Mikko Saarela Torvinen. At a band contest 1979, she attracted the attention of the famous musician Juice Leskinen. Shortly thereafter, they received a recording contract with the label Poko Rekords. In the next few years they released several albums in the punk style of the Ramones, which earned them favorable reviews. However, the major breakthrough had to wait until 1984 and was caused by a change in style AOR. The albums produced in the new style Rupisia riimejä, karmeita tarinoita (1984 ), Kahdeksas Ihme (1985) and Valkoinen Kupla (1986 ) were hits and sold very well. Together they brought the three albums a total of over 300,000 copies sold in Finland and also the following albums were successes.
After several long tours, the band decided in 1989 to take a break. Only in 1993 appeared Studio Etana that is not awarded despite sales of over 40,000 units as a single album since the change in style with platinum. After the band split up due to lack of inspiration on almost. A 1996 published collection of her greatest hits sold well over 200,000 times, making it still # 3 on the list of the best albums of the Finnish charts.
