Epsilon Pegasi

Enif ( from Arabic أنف, DMG anf nose ( the horse ) ' ) is the name of ε Pegasi ( Epsilon Pegasi ), the brightest star in the constellation Pegasus. Enif has an apparent magnitude of 2.38 mag. He is an orange-red supergiant of spectral type K2 and about 700 light- years away. In a few million years, he should end as a massive white dwarf or - if he just has a little too much weight for this evolutionary path - explode as a supernova. Enif is an Irregular variables whose brightness sometimes by enormous eruptions (flares ) significantly increases. 1972 was the star of an outburst, in which he was remarkably bright with 0.70 m.

Enif is a triple asterisk. He has two companions: in 82 " Distance 11.5 like a bright and in 143 " distance like a bright star 8.5.
