Epson R-D1

The Epson R -D1 is a digital rangefinder camera with interchangeable lens mount for the Leica M bayonet. She was the world's first digital rangefinder camera, two years before the Leica M8.

The camera is technically based on the 35mm - Compact-Camera Voigtlander Bessa R2 of the Japanese manufacturer Cosina, in which a 6.1 - megapixel CCD sensor was installed with form factor 1.5. The camera was offered without lenses. All manual lenses with Leica M terminal of the producer Leica, Zeiss ZM and Cosina - Voigtlander can be used on the camera. An adapter also most lenses can be used with M39 screw thread. Although the camera has to carry a film, the cocking lever must be pressed before each shot.

The camera was available from 2004 and was built until 2009. During this production period, the camera went through various upgrades (improved folding monitor, change memory card slots ), which were also reflected in the product. A total of four variants were built: R- D1, R- D1s, R- D1x and 2009 a last small series with the designation R- D1xG.
