Eptingen

Eptingen ( " Eptige ") is a municipality in the district of Waldenburg in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Eptingen is at the upper end of the Diegtertals and is completely surrounded by the Jura folds.

Eptingen bordered to the north Diegten, on the northeast by Läufelfingen, on the southeast by Hauenstein Ifenthal (SO), to the south by Hägendorf (SO), on the southwest by Langenbruck and to the northwest by Bennwil.

History

Archaeological finds show that the area was populated by Eptingen early as the 7th century. However, the actual settlement took place in the early Middle Ages. 1145 the site was mentioned as a " bit Tingen " in 1189 as " Etingen " and 1194 as " Eptinwin ". The supremacy was the Bishop of Basel, who gave the village as a fief to the Lords of Eptingen. 1487 it was bought by the city of Basel. 1803 came Eptingen to the district of Waldenburg.

Coat of arms

Since 1938 Eptingen has an official coat of arms. It is a lying, black eagle with red tongue and red claws on golden background. This is the coat of arms of the lords of Eptingen.

Economy

The source of the well-known Switzerland Eptinger mineral water and its bottling plant located here. The administration, however, is in Sissach. The company already overcrowded since 1900 mineral water from, has approximately 75 employees and has an annual production capacity of 400,000 - 500,000 bottles per day.
