Equal Rights (Latvia)

Līdztiesība ( equality ) was a political party in Latvia, which was mainly supported by the Russian-speaking minority in the country.

History

The party had its origin in the fraction Līdztiesība of the Supreme Soviet of the LSSR. This fraction united MPs (mostly Russian-speaking ), who advocated the continued existence of the Soviet Union. Longtime chairman was Tatjana Ždanoka.

Chairman of the original group were Sergei Dīmanis and later Leonids Kurdjumovs. The 1993 as " movement for equality and social justice " organization was designated in 1996 to a political party. Since 2000 it is simply called "equality". The leaders of the party were Sergei Dīmanis and Tatjana Ždanoka, later Tatjana Ždanoka and Vladimirs Buzajevs. In May 1998, the party merged with the Socialist Party of Latvia and the Party of People's harmony to group " For Human Rights in United Latvia " together and went so well in the Latvian parliamentary elections on 5 October 2002. Coalition reached 18.9 % of the vote and 25 of 100 seats in the Saeima. in 2003 was the emergence of the Party of the People's harmony ( lett Tautas Saskaņas partija ). at the 11th Party Conference of " Līdztiesība " In 2007, it was decided the party in Briva izvēle tautu EIROPA, the sister party of the electoral alliance to integrate.
