Eramet

Eramet is a French mining and metallurgical enterprises. It produces nickel, manganese, nickel-based alloys and other non-ferrous alloys, and high speed steel.

History

In 1880, the company Société Le Nickel ( SLN) was established and operational at several New Caledonia nickel mines. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was the world's largest producer of nickel. The mines and the smelter in Noumea in 1974 with Elf Aquitaine received a new co-owner. In 1983 there was another change of ownership, which now ERAP ( Entreprise de Recherches et d' Activités pétrolières ) held the majority. 1985, the plants were summarized in New Caledonia in the company Société Le Nickel - SLN Métallurgique and established as the parent company, the company Eramet - SLN ( from 1992 Le Nickel - SLN and Eramet ).

As of 1989, the company diversified and purchased the majority interest in the Gabonese manganese mining company Compagnie Miniere de l' Ogooue SA ( Comilog ). The daughter - monastery Speed ​​Steel Company and La Commentrienne 1992 were merged to form Erasteel, a leader in high-speed steels.

In 2000, 4% of Le Nickel - SLN were sold to Société de Participations Territorial Calédonienne Industrial ( STCPI ) representing the three provinces of New Caledonia. Overall STCPI held in 2008, 34% of Le Nickel - SLN.
