Đeravica

Đeravica (Cyrillic Ђеравица, Albanian: Gjeravica or Gjeravicë ) is with 2656 m. i J. above sea level, the highest elevation of Kosovo. The mountain is located in the Prokletija mountains on the territory of the municipality of Dečani little east of the border with Albania. In the valley of springing on the eastern slope of the mountain river Dečanska Bistrica is the monastery Visoki Dečani.

Geomorphology

The structure of the eastern Prokletija from metamorphic rocks ( schist) allows a mature fluvial relief. The upper tributaries of Bistrica e Dečanit, the Erenik and bistrica e Lločanit arise from the often incised summit ridge. Three glacial lakes, two on the south and one on the north side are in great Karwannen and evidence of Pleistocene glaciation.

Population

Is colonized the eastern Prokletija to the Đeravica heard of Albanians. But there are also Roma and Montenegrins. Wildlife

The more densely forested mountain slopes are particular locations of large carnivores Wild ( wolf, bear and lynx ). The eastern Prokletija is also a project area of KORA Lynx and Euro nature, which is to secure the remaining population of the subspecies of the Balkan lynx. This part of the Prokletija is also the main focus of the UNEP Programs Enhancing Transboundary Biodiversity Management in South Eastern Europe.
