Erba, Lombardy

Erba is an Italian town with 16,546 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Province of Como in Lombardy.

Location and data

Erba is located approximately 13 km east of Como in the Brianza. The districts are Arcellasco, bindella, Buccinigo, California, Campo Longo Carpe Sino, Crevenna, Incasate, Mevate and Saxony. The neighboring municipalities are Alba Villa, Caslino d' Erba, Castelmarte, Eupilio, Faggeto Lario, Longone al Segrino, Merone, Monguzzo, Ponte Lambro and Proserpio.

The place can be reached via the A9 motorway exit Como. Erba has a station on the railway line Milan - Asso.

History

The origin of the church is unknown. In Roman times, people already settled here. 1926 Erba merged with seven neigh places.

Attractions

Worth seeing is the old town. The church of Santa Eufemia was built in the style of the Romanesque. You can see on the two forts Casiglio and Pomerio.

Trivia

During the Football World Cup 1990 in Italy, the German national football team was staying at the luxury hotel " Castello di Casiglio " in Erba. The team of coach Franz Beckenbauer with stars like Lothar Matthäus, Andreas Brehme, Jürgen Klinsmann and Rudi Völler was soccer World Cup at the tournament.
