Erbaa is a city in the Turkish province of Tokat and the chief town of the district of the same name. Erbaa is located in the Black Sea region, about 52 km north of the provincial capital of Tokat. In 2010 59.901 people lived in Erbaa. Erbaa has the status of a Belediye. The county has four Erbaa Bucaks ( center, Doğanyurt, Karayaka and Kozlu ) and 72 villages.

Name

The name is of Arabic origin Erbaa, arba ʿ a is "four". The original full name was Nevahi -i Erbaa, " the four Nahiyes ". This name originated in 1848, when Herek, Karayaka, Sonisa ( Reşadiye - Uluköy ) and Taşabad ( Taşova ) to a common judicial district ( Kaza ) were combined.

Geography and climate

Erbaa is located about 40 km west of Niksar in a 32 km long and 10 km wide fertile valley that is drained by the Kelkit Çayı. The area is rich in watercourses. The smaller rivers and streams Tozanlı, Karakuş İmbat, Keçeci and Tanoba flow mostly in the Kelkit. In the north, the Canik Dağları raise the Karınca Dagi and to the south the mountains Sakarat (1956 m) and Boğalı. The northern border of the county is the Hasan Uğurlu reservoir.
