Erector spinae muscles

The musculus erector spinae (Latin for " erector spine " or " erector spinae " ) represents a group of muscles that serve the erection or stretching, as well as the rotation as well as lateral flexion (musculus intertransversarius ) of the spine. Musculus erector spinae is a blurred defined term, which is therefore reluctantly used by anatomists. Sometimes you can get away with it describes the entire autochthonous back muscles, sometimes only sections, namely musculus iliocostalis, longissimus muscle and the spinalis. Often called these three collectively " the erector spinae " or - in the plural - " the back extensors ."

The erector spinae muscles run along the spine. They are not visible on the body surface, one can palpate the sides of the spine as a bead. For the treatment of Scheuermann 's disease ( " hunchback " ) is physical therapy to strengthen the muscles, particularly the back extensors, are used.
