Eremurus × isabellinus ' Shelford' hybrids

Steppe Candles ( eremurus, Syn: .. Ammolirion Kar & Kir, Henningia Kar & Kir ), even desert tail, tail lilies, called Cleopatra's needle, is a genus in the subfamily Asphodelus ( Asphodeloideae ), with about 45 species. Some varieties of a few species are used as ornamental plants in parks and gardens. The natural habitat of the species are mainly the cold highlands of the central and western Asia. In addition, the range extends east to China and even west to Turkey and Ukraine.

Description

Steppe candles are perennial, herbaceous plants, which usually reach stature heights of 80 to 200 centimeters and usually grow horst -like. The rhizomes of the steppe candles are finger -shaped and quite sensitive. The lanceolate leaves are tufted together at the plant base.

The inflorescences are in some species very high, the Blütenstandsschäfte are without leaves and many flowers are dense, racemose. The hermaphrodite, stalked flowers are triple.

They form seed capsules. The seeds are triangular, sometimes with wings at the edges. Similar to the related Asphodelien avoid cattle eremurus, they soadß even in heavily grazed areas a chance of survival.
