Ergash Karimov

Ergasch Karimov (Russian Эргаш Каримов, latin - Uzbek Ergash Karimov, born in 1934, Uzbek SSR; † August 4, 2009 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan ) was a Soviet- Uzbek comedian, writer of comic films and actors. During his career in the Soviet era, he was often referred to as King of the Uzbek comedy ".

In his most famous film, Utschraschuw, Karimov plays a naive chemistry student who can not decipher the molecular formula for water. He assumes that water contains no atoms, since you could make with them bombs.

Many of his works, particularly his performances during the 1970s, are considered classics of the Soviet and Uzbek comedy. Ergasch Karimov also took on some roles in Russian-speaking Uzbek and television films.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the independence of Uzbekistan in 1991, Karimov lost his job, was unemployed for several years and had difficulties coping in the new state. The last years of his life were spent, according to his longtime friend, the director Ali Chamrajew, in Tashkent, where he lived on a low pension. He died on 4 August 2009 at the age of 75 years.

Despite his high profile in Uzbekistan has been in the local media, which are subject to government censorship, not reports about his death.
