The Ergolz is the main flow through the Basel area in the canton Basel-Landschaft/Schweiz. It rises in the Jura folds at the Geissflue in the upper region of Basel and flows into the Rhine Augst.

The Ergolz has the inflows Eibach, Homburg Erbach, Diegterbach, Frenke ( Rear and Front Frenke ) Orisbach, Röserenbach and Violenbach.

Measurement data

Since 1934, the water level and the discharge amount of Ergolz is measured in Liestal. In these more than 70 years, flowed an average of 3.73 m³ / s towards the Rhine. History

The river was the Roman town of Augusta Raurica as drinking water supply, to an aqueduct was built originating above Liestal. The aqueduct is still visible in places, and walkable ( in Heidenloch in Liestal and northeast of the sewage treatment plant in Füllinsdorf ).

The increasing in the 20th century water pollution Ergolz was countered in 1960 with the construction of several water treatment plants.
