Eric Harland

Eric Harland Du'sean ( born November 8, 1978 in Houston, Texas) is an American jazz drummer.

Life and work

After his education at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, he took another spot on, Wynton Marsalis became aware of him at a workshop and he got a scholarship to New York's Manhattan School of Music. He then studied theology at the Houston Baptist University ( College of Biblical Studies ) and a minister.

Harland played with several of the M-Base artists such as Greg Osby, Geri Allen, Jason Moran and Ravi Coltrane and performed at concerts on with artists such as McCoy Tyner, Betty Carter, Dave Holland and Charles Lloyd; with the latter, he has worked in a trio Sangam with tabla player Zakir Hussain. Eric Harland is a member of the SFJAZZ Collective and took part in Aaron Parks Blue Note debut album Invisible Cinema with. At the 65th annual Downbeat readers poll, he appeared in the list of the best drummers along with old masters like Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones. He also worked on recordings by Terence Blanchard ( Wandering Moon, 1999), Liberty Ellman, Stefon Harris ( Black Action Figure 1999), Kenny Garrett, Rigmor Gustafsson, Mark Shim, Brett Sroka, John Swana, Gregory Tardy and the SFJAZZ Collective. With Terence Blanchard Eric Harland has received 18 film scores.

The New York Times wrote, " He I set the pace for the future of jazz ."
