Eric Morecambe

Eric John Bartholomew ( born May 14, 1926 in Morecambe, Lancashire, England; † 28 May 1984), known by the stage name Eric Morecambe, was a member of the English comedian duo Morecambe and Wise with Ernie Wise.

His stage name Bartholomew chose for his home town, the seaside resort of Morecambe in Lancashire. The resort thanked for it with a statue at the beach, which was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in person.

Its importance is also evident in that he was elected to the 32nd place in the list of " 100 Greatest Britons " (100 greatest British ).
